What is Out There in The World?
Words by Dyah Rachmawati Rasyida – XLFL Batch 3
There are many ways to give good impact to people around us and I find out that writing could be a great way to positively affect people. I did not put much interest in writing up until my first-year college. Then my lecture suggested me to write a research paper because he thought that writing a research paper could help me have great experience in academic circles.
I was a second-year student when I first started writing my first paper. One of my lectures has been working on the similar topic to what I have been working on and he has been pushing me to combine our results into one paper. Then we sent our paper into a Conference in Korea. When I found our paper is accepted, I knew that my experience in Korea was the start of my first journey in a conference and paper experience. International experience has always been a dream of me, I could imagine how great it will be when many people around the world gather and share ideas from each country.. The opportunity of meeting them in person and joining them in challenging and problem-solving activities will be so wonderful to me.
Now, as I am a forth-year student of a university, I have already submitted five journals accredited by international index and national index also attended three international conferences and two national conferences. Those five papers are mostly discussed industrial management and social science with a case study in Indonesia industrial manufacturing.
My last trip to Hongkong in April 2016 for International Conference of Industrial Engineering and Application gave me a lot of new perspectives on what is out  there in the world. My paper is one of 120 papres that got accepted after several rounds review procedure and published in conference proceeding and indexed by Scopus, IEEE, Engineering Village, World Cat and Inspect. Before they published those papers, the author should present the paper in front of the reviewer and program chairman. In this conference, two best presentations will be selected and evaluated for originality, applicability, technical merit, ppt, and English.
The highlight of this trip was when, I was invited to deliver a presentation about my paper. I did a special presentation there, I presented my research paper in front of the entire participants around the world and mostly they are professor and master degree students. I talked about my idea of assessing service quality in the airport.
In my paper, I proposed a new model combination of SERVPERF and Important-Performance Analysis of MICMAC Model. A case study was conducted at Ahmad Yani International Airport, Indonesia, to demonstrate the applicability of the method, because even if there are several areas of service that this method can be applied, however, an investigation into airport service has remained rather limited. Perhaps this is due to conventionally perceived notion that airports are natural monopolies, and have often been seen as a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. The absence of competition among airports makes the quality of the services become less noticed.
I received great comments for my presentation from the chairman and reviewers of the conference because I did not only talk about the content of the research, but also I give the good opening, strong data and well time management. For me, a great presentation is not only making the participants understand but also enjoying the presentation.
Finally, at the end of the session the two best speakers was announced and awarded the certificate. It came to my surprise when my name was mentioned as the Second Best Speaker in this paper presentation. The first winner is Dr. Noha M. Galal from Egypt with a total score of 80.0, while my score is actually 79.8, very close!
For me, this has been a great experience attending the ICIEA in Hongkong, where I met a lot of smart and friendly international people. Personally, I think this conference was very well organized and very successful. I truly enjoyed the three-day event, with so many interesting seminars and discussions on various legal topics.
This achievement wouldn’t be possible without practicing and learning.I personally have been learning on how to be a good presenter and how to give the best presentation from XL Future Leaders program. Almost twice in every two months, I and my friends at XL Future Leaders challenged by the facilitators to solve some problem that Indonesia faced nowadays and we should present our idea, it could be in front of BOD, guest stars, facilitators or students. Those challenges really work for boosting my skills in presentation; I do really apply one of three XL Future Leaders core competencies, that is Effective Communication.
I am just a young woman who has big dreams, I cannot say that I am an expert, I am just learning from the experts. In this young age, I want to do more for my country, and for me join in international competition like this is a very good chance to make Indonesia have a better reputation in the world. It may be hard and challenging, but the process and experience are always worth it.
