Real Life Reflection from Emotional Intelligence Workshop

By Jordy Lokananta (XLFL Batch 2 Jakarta Class)

XLFL workshop is full of great experience. Since the first time I had the workshop, there has been many of great speaker from various background shared their expertise, passion, experience and knowledge. We have aspiring speaker from UNICEF, Boards director of XL, US embassy, come to our workshop and inspire us to the things that they have done in life.

Last workshop, at first I was very happy because I will join the class that will have the US Ambassador Wife as our guest speaker. But my facilitator told me not to join that class because we will have another great speaker for our class. I agreed not to move, hoping that we will have another stellar guest that we cannot meet in daily occasion.

On the day, I finally knew who would be our guest speaker, turned out that he is one of the XL Senior leader. I can say, it made me feel unlucky since I was hoping fancy guest speaker to come. But what happened that day really blew my mind away.

To learn from a book or an expert seminar about how we reach success in life is probably easy now, but to have a feeling that the advice and experience shared are so real is something different. And this is how I feel when Pak Mediko Azwar shared his story in XLFL batch 2 class.

He is a great man with very humble gesture. Emotional intelligent is what people call for the knowledge he shared to us, but for me it is way beyond that. He gave us 9 points of life lessons to keep moving forward and achieving success in life.

Pak Mediko Azwar is now the Senior Vice President and brand manager for XL. He has a long history of working in various background and company. It can be felt that what Pak Mediko taught us was really helpful and applicable as if it was the real experience we will have in the near future and I was very glad to know it.

Pak Mediko taught us to be truthful to ourselves, He gave me the courage to fight for the things I believe in. Pak Mediko is an uber brain in engineering course. He has the master degree in electrical engineering from reputable institution in France, but that is just not him. To be brave enough to cross the hard way over that might looks a comfortable one is a huge decision to make, and I wish when the time comes, I will be able to do that too. Pak mediko chose marketing as his career to pursue.

His up and down experiences, starting as an awkwardly older than his colleague in his first company, Pak Mediko exists to keep the pace high. A lot of moments when He had to make a choice often led him not only to other great life but also challenges to even bigger dreams. But, that does not mean in life we will always be success.

That is why finding a company that is able to grow you as a complete professional is as important as finding a right mentor. A mentor that will help you chasing the pavement of your life goal.  it can be done if we keep on learning, asking and developing ourselves to deliver the best of our performances.

He told us about his story conquering the sea, he is the living proof that if you strive enough in life, you will win even over the thing you afraid the most. But don’t forget to always be humble, we are human and we have to deal with people, even the hard ones. And when the time people are willing to join your ship to cross a graceful journey, that is the time when you become a truly leader.

Thank you, Pak Mediko.
